Today was a chill day. I did not cycle. Had no things to do. I woke up as some mosquito bites started to itch….I did some things on my Iphone, showered and walked into Zagreb city. The weather was blue and sunny when I stepped out of the hotel and it looked it would become a warm day, which it did. I walked to the museum of photography war, passed a nice park and the Zagreb train station. I arrived at the museum which seemed no longer to be open….Zagreb has a lot of musea : The 80’s museum, The torture museum, The museum of broken relationships, The mushroom museum, The museum of hangovers,….maybe there is room for the museum of musea…

I had found a city walk on the internet which I followed some time. Zagreb is a nice city, it made me think somewhat at Vienna, Prague,..big 19th century buildings, big lanes,…My next stop was the cathedral but as you at guess was closed as well for renovation….In 2020 an earthquake hit Zagreb with a magnitude of 5 a lot of buildings were damaged. Around 1900 building were reported damaged to the point of becoming uninhabitable.
I walked around in the higher and lower historical part of the city center and had some strawberries….Everywhere in the city there a stalls selling strawberries. They were quiet good. At 13.00 it became warm, I had walked around 3 hours and got tired. I had a drink and small bite on shady terrace and decided to have a nap. I’m also trying to organize to swap my tires and I think my front chainring could use replacement( I hope I can do this either in Ljubljana or Salzburg). I went to the hotel emailed a couple of bike shops and fell asleep…..I woke up around 17.00 and walked back into the city for a stroll….It was still warm, terraces full with people. I had a reasonable pistachio ice cream and started looking for a place to have dinner. There are a lot of beer bars in Zagreb offering craft beer. I found a nice terrace and had an excellent IPA with a hamburger whilst I wrote the post of today. I was not in city-visiting mood today which was a pity as Zagreb is a nice city to discover. I’m looking forward to be on the road again tomorrow. Tomorrow I will also leave Croatia and head to Maribor in Slovenia. This summer we have visited Slovenia but did not visit Maribor, a small city amid the wine-region hills on the Drava River, it has a castle and assumingly a nice old town…It will be not a short ride and one “bump” of 450 m to get over….
Lessons learned :
- Croatian strawberries are very good. Better then their ice cream.
- Croatian IPA is good but not as good as their strawberries.
- As part of the Brexit there should be a ban on UK stag parties on the continent.
Song of today : Misses - Girls in Hawai

The closer you get to home, the better the ice cream gets! The city looked great... and so did your photos! Hopefully you have a nice day tomorrow!
