The big balkan cycle adventure

I woke up and started cyling early. At 7.30 I was on the road. I had packed my wet tent (no rain) and bought at 7.25  breakfast from the mobile bakery which visited the camping. The sky was blue and sun shining. Today would be all around cycling, 150 K in distance and 1000 meters to climb.  Today’s  summary : First 50 K climbing through rural Germany (small villages and big fields), Next 50 K flat cycling along the Main 50 K, Last 50 K, one big climb and all the rest cycling down (though a rural area again)  to Wertheim located at the Main river. I cycled most of the time small cycle paths with very few people to be seen (except when I cycled along the Mainz river). Wertheim is a nice small village with the typical half-timbered houses around a central market square..Today had been a great but long ride…. When I arrived in Wertheim I had a not to bad Amarena/Malaga ice cream…one of the better ice creams I had the last 3 months. I left the Disney town square and headed the last kilomete

The room rate included a nice breakfast. I left beautiful Regensburg through it still empty streets. Today would cycle direction Nuremberg, to be more specific to the only camping I could find within a reasonable distance direction home.I had found a camping some 15 from Nürnbergin the well known village Wintersdorf some 130 kilometers and 1200 meters of climbing away….. I quickly left Regensburg urban area and rode the first 30 K through a beautiful and sunny river valley…hoping that the route would be like this until  I reached my destination. After the 30 K the valley was replaced by rolling hills for the rest of the day. Hills of around 500 meters in height holding fields, pastures, cows, small villages and very little people….I passed two (or three) bigger villages…with an Aldi, bar and bank….The scenery was not to bad certainly with the sun and big white clouds hanging above me. It was a cold when I went to sleep but nothing my -12 sleeping bag couldn’t handle. Later in the night there was some light rain. I woke at 6…To early to break up camp (most campings expect one should not make noice between 22 and 7). At 7 I made breakfast and started breakup camp. Today would be a rather long ride of 140 K to Regensburg, luckily with no climbing along the road. Most of the day I would follow the Danube. When I left the camping , which had an operational phone cel…, it was grey and fleece-level cold…. As it was a Sunday there were no people in the street of the villages and all was closed. I had bought some lunch yesterday. The views were not to bad but nothing to get exited about. On the left sometimes the Danube on the right a country landscape with in the distance some hills….Most cyclists I met came again out of the opposite direction although at a lower volume then the previous days. After 78 days and 6987 kilometers I’m back in Passau….. It rained all night and well into the morning. I packed camp in the rain but  succeeded to keep everything dry except my outer tent. I left te camping site In Salzburg around 10 in the morning, somewhat late as I had more then 110 K to cycle…. Komoot did it’s magic again…I cycled most of the day over small roads though the Austrian country only passing small farmer villages and once a bigger town…The mountains had been replaced by rolling hills going up and down over Austria. I enjoyed the ride and looking forward to ride all the way to home. Yesterday, after a lot of searching I was able to  book a train ticket which would bring me home on Sunday evening…to enjoy Sunday evening pizza with the family….but I realised that I’m not yet ready to stop cycling yet…I cancelled the ticket and plotted a cycling route to Gent instead.  One of the reasons, besides closing the loop in my head,  to head to Passau was the more positive weather
