//Day 73 /23-05-22 /Ljubljana-Bled

I had an appointment with a bikeshop to change my tires. When I arrived at 10.00 in the morning the tires had not yet arrived and it was not sure when they would arrive..I decided not to wait and started to cycle direction Bled. One of the best  known touristic places of Slovenia. I had expected a super scenic cycle path but the reality was somewhat less.Not bad just not as super as hoped. At start I followed small roads but most f the time I cycled a cyclepath parallel to a busy road.The cycle path was of excellent quality, the views not to bad but cycling along the busy road spoiled somewhat the pleasure.

The weather was grey most of the day but in the evening the sun appeared…tomorrow the weather is forecasted somewhat more sunny. After a a short ride of 60 K I arrived at Bled, with it’s lake, castle and church on the island in the middle of the lake. Some tourists but clearly not yet high season. I had a sandwich lunch overlooking the lake and cycled to the camping opposite of where I had lunch. The camping site, a showroom of all the  different camper on the market. Caravans seem to be clearly out of the mode, tents is for the young and cyclists. The camping was quite busy. In the afternoon there was a large queue of campers to enter the camping. It also became clear I had installed myself on a camper/caravan plot (in order to be close to an electricity point the German citizen who was assigned plot 208 was so kind not to chase me away……

After I had setup camp, I bought dinner in a nearby market. Had a shower and a walked a bit around the lake before installing myself on a terrace with lake view for some reading (I’m reading an interesting book about how some German families (Oetker, Porche, Bosch,…made there  welt during the Nazi Germany) In the evening I made dinner of pasta con prosciutto a la crema…..not to bad. I’m getting better to cook on my camping stove.

Again a relaxing day. Tomorrow I will be leaving Slovenia and entering Austria cycling to the famous Ossiacher See…where I will camp again….


















Lessons Learned :
  • At lake Bled you have to pay 30 cent for an ice cream cup-a,  cone is free. Clearly discrimination of the ice cream cup lovers.
  • There is Camino path in Slovenia.
  • A tent is more fun than a hotel room.

    It looked like a fun day... Bled is so beautiful! Wow tomorrow you'll be in Austria already... looks like the end of your trip is getting closer! Lovely photos as usual!

    Heb weer genoten van je mooie foto's, haalde bij mij herinneringen op. Bled is heel mooi gelegen. Je had precies een rustige dag, ben benieuwd naar de volgende dagen.

    Zo te horen heb je een mooie dag gehad en ervan genoten, ook van het kamperen.
    Zo kom je alsmaar dichter bij huis hopelijk met goed en vooral droog weer. Voor morgen weer een leuke fietsdag

Yesterday evening a tired-looking young man arrived by bike and setup his tent next to mine. The theory of personal space was not something he mastered well, although plenty of space he placed his tent no more then 2 meters from mine. During the night strange sounds erupted out of the young man’s  tent ; a mix of farting, rambling through plastic bags, heavy sighing,….In the morning I friendly said hello but the only response was a short grunt… Today I planned to visit Salzburg and had a slow start with a lengthy breakfast of coffee and sandwiches with “schinken”…Around 10.15 I walked to the bus stop which conveniently connected the camping with Salzburg city center in 15 minutes, in addition the camping-lady explained me that today public transport was free…. //Day 10 /21-03-22 /Kecskemét-Szeged

I doubt that Hungary, the Hungarians  and I will ever become friends. The landlady of the pension where I stayed  last night was the exception of the rule on how I experienced the Hungarians the last week, she was  ; warm, interested, communicative, a visible ‘joie de vivre’ and a look to the broader world. I’m aware that it is not possible to build a correct view on people and a country based upon a brief cycle trough of a couple of days. I decided to run  a little test today to investigate the Hungarian social skills: I waved and said hello to every person I met - Roughly 75 % ignored me, 20 % actually looked me in the eye but did not give any further reaction and 5% waved back, or said hello - the test population was more then 100 people, with a mix of women and men. Rest my case. But it is  not only the people, it is also the landscape ; monotonous, flat, little or no trees, grey-brownish, crossed by electricity lines, straight lined roads, empty streets, …E...

//Day 67 /17-05-22 /Banja Luka-Dubica

I left beautiful Banja Luka after breakfast. I did it sleep that good due to late fire work….The sun was shining but rain was expected later in the day. Today would be mainly flat cycling except climbing one hill to 750 meters in the National Park Kozara. After 3 streets I had to climb a short steep hill, I guess over 15%…the street ending on the top in some stairs going down…The only solution was to cycle back down again and take another route, a good warming up exercise….. Once I left the city I cycled again most of the time on small roads, paved and unpaved. I also had some small hills in the beginning. On Komoot these seemed negligible but on of these hills, unpaved, was so steep that I was not able to cycle and had to push Black Horse some 50 meters to the top, not so much if Black Horse and package would not be around 50 Kilograms.
