//Day 74 /24-05-22 /Bled-Anneheim

I slept as a rose.It rained during the night until 5 in the morning. Around 6.30 I started to breakup camp….The tent was wet from the rain but luckily the sun appeared and I was able to dry the tent reasonably. I had breakfast at the shores of lake Bled with croissants and orange juice….the view hard to beat. 




Today I would be leaving Slovenia, and as such the Balkan…Slovenia may be geographical part of the Balkan but cultural  I felt I left the Balkan already when leaving Croatia. Today the cycling was just great, following most of the day a part of the fantastic Alpe Adria cycle way, which runs from Salzburg to Grado in Italy, partly on an old railway track.I cycled small roads with the mountains as a the decor, all the  time on dedicated cycle paths. Thanks to the European Union I crossed the frontiers of Slovenia, Italy (yes, I spend 15 kilometer in Italy today) and Austria without any hassle. The only notice between Slovenia and Italy was a signpost indicating I was leaving Slovenia and entering Italy. The frontier infrastructure between Italy and Austria still exists but was altered in an art work…the old border buildings were painted gold….













A lot of cyclists, individuals, groups, locals and tourists passed me, I’m clearly no longer the solo Zorro cyclist in a small Bulgarian or Romanian village…but one of the many in cycling Disneyland…..
I made a small detour to vist Villach city, definitely ‘vaut le detour’ ; an a old castle overlooking the town, most of the center pedestrian, old buildings, bars, restaurants, relax atmosphere….and  great icecream. After another 10K I arrived at camping in  Anneheim located at the shores of  Ossiacher See (lake).. During the day it had became warm and sunny so it was great to finally have a swim, the water temperature of the lake  was better then expected and as result I had a second swim in the evening. 











In the evening I had dinner in the camping-restaurant…which tasted as it should do in a camping-restaurant….Tonight rain I
Is forecasted….I’m looking forward to the sound of rain falling down on my tent, I’m not looking forward to pack a wet tent tomorrow morning…

The bike shop in Salzburg, where I planned to change my front gear also informed me that the required part will be available the soonest in 2 to 3 weeks, even if I was a big family von Trapp fan 2 weeks Salzburg seems a little to much.

Tomorrow I wil cycle to a camping in Mallnitz to take the day after the Tauern tunnel-train and avoid a climb to 2350 meters, a little bit to much of a climb for Black Horse, I have to spare the old horse don’t I.

Lessons Learned :
  • An unexpectedly you are in Italy.
  • The last 2 days 3 people recommended me to cycle home via the Bodensee.
  • There is more chance to win the lottery then to get bicycle parts you need.

    DE foto's waren prachtig, dit is een streek waar ik van hou, prachtige bergen en dalen, mooie dorpen en leuke mensen, De bodensee is zeker mooi om te zien, verwacht nog meer mooie foto's. Geniet van deze streek

    Weeral heel mooie fotos gekregen en jij hebt zo te horen een leuke fietsdag gehad. Hopelijk niet te veel regen gehad deze nacht w..ant een natte tent inpakken is echt niet leuk .

/Day 84 /03 -06-22 /Remagen-Remersdaal

I was awake by 5.30 thanks to many birds making a lot of noice. I stayed in bed until 7.00 and was ready to go by 8.00. In Remagen I bought breakfast at the bakery and cycled afterwards the last kilometers along the Rhine.I also passed the remnants of the Remagen bridge which was was captured intact by the allies during WWII and scene for heavy battle as the Germans tried to destroy the bridge, which  it eventually did.  Leaving the Rhine required some climbing to get out of the Rhine Valley. A short but steep climb brought me in a different landscape. Big fields, low rolling hills…Most of the day this would be the landscape, not  to bad but also nothing extra-ordinary. The cycle path often ran parallel to quite busy roads which spoiled somewhat the fun.  In the afternoon I cycled though Aachen. I had never been to Aachen before and the  city center  looked very pleasant. The icecream was also of reasonable quality, no Amerena and Malaga this time but yoghu...

/Day 86 /05 -06-22 /Halle-Gent (Home)

Pip the home-rabbit didn’t kill me. At least not yet, but I probably will as result of sleep deprivation. I learned the hard way that rabbits are nocturnal animals, during the night the Pip made a lot of noise drinking and scratching…Today a good rabbit is a rabbit in combination with prunes… After breakfast I left Hannah, Alec and Oscar around 9.00 and cycled to Dilbeek to pick up Maarten and Inge who would join me cycling to Gent. On the way to Dilbeek another friend, Jurriaan, informed me that he would join as well. For my last TBBCA cycling day the weather gods have foreseen most of the day rain  but eventually it was only the last 20 K that I needed to cycle in the rain. Not to to bad.  Thanks to Maarten leading the way we soon arrived in Schellebelle to say hello to another friend, Nico to have some refreshments and chocolate waffles….The last 20 K I cycled along the Schelde to home…I took the scenic route through the city center… and surprised the kids with my arrival…....

//Day 66 /16-05-22 /Doboj-Banja Luka

As I enjoyed cycling in Bosnia the last week I looked at the possibility to extend my path through Bosnia rather then to head to Croatia. The challenge that cycling the north of Bosnia or return to the coast would require some serious climbing. After some study work on Komoot I found a feasible route direction North allowing me to cycle two additional days in Bosnia. Today I would head to Banja Luka. Bosnia ( full name : Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)) also includes the Republika Srpska, which is home of the Serbs living in BiH, and established as part of the Dayton agreements of 1995. Although Sarajevo is the capital of BiH, Banja Luka is the defacto capital of the Republika Srpska and Bosnian Serbs. The day after I will cycle to the city Dubica at the Croatian-BiH frontier through the National park Kozare.
