//Day 77 /27-05-22 /Salzburg

Yesterday evening a tired-looking young man arrived by bike and setup his tent next to mine. The theory of personal space was not something he mastered well, although plenty of space he placed his tent no more then 2 meters from mine. During the night strange sounds erupted out of the young man’s  tent ; a mix of farting, rambling through plastic bags, heavy sighing,….In the morning I friendly said hello but the only response was a short grunt…

Today I planned to visit Salzburg and had a slow start with a lengthy breakfast of coffee and sandwiches with “schinken”…Around 10.15 I walked to the bus stop which conveniently connected the camping with Salzburg city center in 15 minutes, in addition the camping-lady explained me that today public transport was free….

I got of the bus at Salzburg Old Marktplatz and headed to the Salzburg’s Museum der Moderne , the modern Art Museum, to visit 2 exhibitions. The first a solo exhibition of Richard Kriesche and the second a photo exhibition of contemporary photography from Canada and the USA with interesting work from Jeff Wall and Gregory Crewdson. The scope/story/ message of the exhibition  was although not really clear to me. I spend a nice 2 hours in the museum, which is located on a top of a hill. To reach the museum I took quiet some stairs, later I learned there is a an elevator which bring you from city level to the museum.

I was not the only tourist in Salzburg town. A lot of individual tourists but also  a lot of groups, understandably as Salzburg is a beautiful city. After my museum visit I strolled around the city visiting some churches, the St.Peters abbey, catacombs,…I did not visit fortress Hohen Salzburg as the queue to the elevator-train was to long and my legs did not agree  to walk all the stairs….

I had a Vietnamese lunch of not so good Pad Thai and a not to bad ice cream…I continued to stroll and visit around until my feet informed me to go home and I had seen enough other tourists. Salzburg definitely merits the detour……

I commuted back to the camping with the free bus and spend the rest of the late afternoon reading and chilling….In the evening I had a nice dinner at the camping restaurant of fresh asparagus soup, salad and noodles with rocket salad…while in the distance dark raining clouds were gathering over the mountains. Yes, indeed..rain is expected….so be it…..

Tommorow I will cycle to Passau…..where I started my cycle trip 77 days ago. I thought heading Boden See but forecast in that direction is nothing but rain for the next week…. Direction Passau and then heading west is no/limited  rain expected the next days…I also prefer the idea (as being somewhat autistic..) to “close“ where I started The Big Balkan Cycle Adventure…

Nice day…again. 

Lessons learned :

• Austrian camping restaurant food is really good.
• I did not see any electric driven camping car. Do they exist ? 
• 4G in Austria is not that great.
